Fine weather prevailed locally over the week-end, and the smoke from thq peat fires in the Awaiti and Patetonga areas made conditions very humid. A glorious sunset was to be seen last night, the sun being a dull firey-red colour. Just after setting, the .whole of the western sky was a blaze of rich gold and red. A heavy pall of smoke hung over tihe town this morning, and the smell of burning peat was very distinct. Road metal commenced to.arrive at Pipiroa on Friday last for the metaling of the road past the school known as Moehau Street.
