JOCKEYS WEIGH OUT TWICE. INCIDENT IN VICTORIA. ■, -The vigilance of the clerk of the scales at the Lancefield iace meeting, ' lljporia, was responsible for the disclosure of an attempt to fake the "scales. After the nine starters for the novelty pony race had weighed out, and Jockeys were, about to mount, the clerk noticed a quantity of lead on . the floor.. , ’ This aroused his suspicions, and an examination of the: scales was made. A small piece of lead was. found on ‘ that portion of the apparatus carrying the indicator slides, making a ‘ difference of 2%1b to the displayed weight of anyone using the instrument. . Mr E.
