TURUA.

CHRISTMAS FAIR.

In an effort to raise funds for the Presbyterian Church on the Hauraki Plains a Christmas. Fair was held in the TuruE\Hall yesterday. There wps a good attendance during the afternoon and. much business was done, but during the evening the attendance was much below expectations.

The hall had been effectively prepared for the fair. Stalls were ranged on tihree sides, tables werej set on the stage for refreshments, and two wellladen Christmas trees were placed near the entrance.

Thq stallholders were as follows : Cakes, Mrs S. S. Murray and Miss. R. Williams; sewing, Mrs Charteris; sweets, Mrs Gordon and Misses Candy and M.’ Miller ; flowers, Mesdames J. C. Miller and J- G- Miller; refreshments, Mesdames C. Dale and Schofield and Miss Dale ; Christmas tree, Misses, Davis and Gordon and Mr Dryden ; competitions, Mrs J. T. Davies. The prizewinners in the cooking, competitions were as follows : Bread, Mrs iS. S. Murray 1, Mrs Abe<rhart 2; fruit cake, Mrs S. S. Murray 1, Mrs J. Miller 2; raadeira cake, Mrs S. S. Murray 1, Mrs J. Miller 2 ; sponge sandwick (with butter), Mrs Clotworthy 1; sponge sandwich (without butter), Mrs Schofield 1: jam roll, Miss; M. Gray ; shortbread, Mrs J. Miller ; scones, Miss A. Dale ; ice sponge sandwich, Mrs Marceau.

Among the prizewinners in other competitions were: Mrs Manktelow, doll; Mrs M. J. Miller, lingere set; Miss M. Newsham, box of chocolates ; Mrs G. Hastings, chest; Mr T. Roff, table-centre ; Mrs G. D. Stewart, cake: Mrs G. Hastings, cake. The fair closed with a. dance, the music being supplied by Mr Frith (piano) and Miss Quinn (accordion).
