THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 23, 1927. CHRISTMAS, 1927.

Another year is on the wane, and the thoughts, of all again turn to Christmas and the holiday season. While many of the traditions of) the holiday season remain, others have passed into .history. Thq spiritual significance of Christmas has survived centuries of war and strife, and each year the story of tne Nativity extends a growing influence on the people of the world. Time has not lessened the spirit of “goodwill towards, men,” which has survived the ages to become a Christmas greeting. Agaip this season is around, and we are heard wishing each other a Merry Christmas and all the joys of thq season. Although to many the wish is but the breath of a passing moment, still it heralds, a warmer feeling all through the Christian world. It is undeniable, however, that the Christmas period is changing in its significance for many of us. The forward march of civilisation has new responsibilities to all members of the human family, and the need* for relaxation at the end of the year’s activities grows with time, and in that sense “Peace) on Earth” wasi never more in keeping with the spirit of Christmas than it is to-day-In this age of stress, and strain Christmas is a time when mankind forgets its cares for a little while in an endeavour to preparq for the tasks ahead with renewed spirit and broader vision. We extend to our readers sincere wishes for a real Merrv Christi mas, and may “Peacej on Earth, goodwill towards Men” prevail.
