HAURAKI DRAINAGE.
UNITED BOARD MEETING. Thu Hauraki United Drainage 80-rd met ,at Turua on Friday last, the chairman, Mr S. S. Murray, presiding over the following : Messrs J. C. Miller, H. 11. Hicks, F. A. Kneebcne, W. McDuff F. L. Hamilton, J. M. Thompson, and the clerk (Mr T. D. Wallace)POWER FOR PUMPINGThe Thames Valley Power Board forwarded .a detailed statement of the account in connection with the settlers’ pump near the Ngatea bridge. For nine months no power was used and the non-running charge] of £1 a month was made. Power was used in July, August, and September, costing £22 Is 2d. The board agreed to pay for the actual power used, but not for the charges made when the pump was not being used. BY-LAWS. Mr N. G. Gribble, clerk to several Waikato drainage; boards,, wrote advising thgt he had prepared a set of by-laws suitable for drainage boards and would supply printed copies. The board decided to investigate, tlie matter. FENCING OF DRAIN. The Commissioner of Crown Lands advised that a voucher f,or £4 O’ had been fprwarded in payment of the fencing work on abandoned soldier sections, Orchard East Road. TE KAURI BRIDGES. Tire chief drainage engineer forwarded amended, plans- and specifications relative to the badges over the Te Kauri No. 1 drain which, had been approved. Three tenders for the erection of the four bridges were received, and that of Mr W. J. Clare, Ngatea, was accepted. £lOOO LOAN. The Public Trustee advised that it was not possible to entertain the board’s application for a loan of £lOOO. The Auckland Savings; Dank advised that a similar application, would be considered in February next, hut such loans were 'not viewed favourably. The Standard Insurance Co. also declined to lend the money. It was decided to approach the Bank of, New Zealand., HORAHIA BOARD’S LOAN. The Bank of New Zealand advised that £4OOO debentures of the Hprahia loan (1926) of £15,500 had been sold
and the £3960 realised placed to the board’s account. WHAREPOA ROAD DRAINS. The lands drainage engineer, Kerepeehi, advised that the Wharepoa Road drain, north side, had been measured as desired by the boaidHe suggested laying the batters back to one to one, and removing the silt. The total excavation is 1674 cubic yards. The chairman was empowered to let a contract for the work at Is a cubic yard. TE KAURI GRANT. The chief drainage engineer, Auckland, advised that the board would be justified in assuming that the item of £250 appearing on the Public Works Department Estimates was a straight out grant. As there was a liability of £43 at March March last, the sum available was £207. HUIRAU POINT WORK. Mr R. H. Baker, Huirau Road, waited upon the board, and expressed the opinion that insufficient work was done in -the Huirau Point area, in consideration of the amount of rates levied. He drew attention to
