CHILDREN’S BALL.
The children of Kerepeehi .were entertained at a very successful fancy dress ball by the Kerepeehi Sunday School in the Kerepeehi Hall on Friday evening. The attendance was large, and most of the children were in f ancy dress. After tiic grand march them were several dances, including a Maypole, and then the parades for the judging of costumes. About 10 o’clock the children were given supper on the stage while the adults danced. Then Santa Claus had brought in a big Christmas tree, from which he distributed gifts to every child present. The last two parcels were for Mr and Mrs H. Booth, in token of appreciation of parents for their work in connection with the Sunday School, the many qhil'lrcn’s rompsi, and the annual ball.
The adults then had supper and continued the dance. The music was supplied by Mr A. E. Ludlow, while Miss Thomson played for the children. The prizes for costumes were awarded by the three judges, Mesdaines Hayward and Cornthwaite, of Ngatea, and Bell, of Tunua, as follows :—
Sixteen years to 12 years : Girl’s best fancy, Cecily Hegh (Dawn); most original, Edna Thomson (Hawaiian). Boys : Fancy, John Hoff (Cavalier) ; most original, George Geary (Father Christmas). Eight years to 12 years.—Girls: Best, fancy, June P,rice (Britannia) ; most original, Cora Tanawhp; (Maori maiden). Boys: Best fancy, Jack Inder (Ghost) ; most original, Neil O’Loughlin (Veteran).
Four years to 8 years.—Girls : Best, Yvonne Hegh (Fairy); most original, June Strong (Rosebud). Boys : Best, Vernon O'Loughlin (Billiard Tables) ; most original, Jack Stance! (Washerwoman). 1 Under 4 years-—Girly: Best, Frances (Chicken). Boys: Best, Bruce Fawcett (Pied Piper). Among the many others in costume were: Misses Peggy Smith (Dunce), Dorothy Booth (Queen of Fairies), Mary Rima (Hawaiian), Doreen Hine (Moth), Dorothy Courtney (Gipsy), Audiey Booth (Clown), Roma Booth (Nurse), Joan Boswell. (Beach Girl), Modest Inder (Japanese), Marjory Shilton (Order of the Bath), Hazel Courtney (Powder Puff), Jean Thomson (Jazz), Joan Fitch (Folly), Merl Strong (Violets), Jean Wilson (Carnival), Faith and Dawn Price (Buy British Gopds), EVelyn Hegh (Dutch Girl), Merl. Mclntosh (Daffodil), Gertie Thompson (Pierrette), Mavis Nicholson (Chinese Lantern), Evelyn Hegh (Old Dutch), Merl. Thompson (Butterfly), Dawn McMillan (Miss Vanity). Masters Don Hine (Cupid), Frank Davies (Butcher), Arthur Davies (Indian), Keith Hoff (Court Gentlemhn), Victor Booth (Chimney S,weep), Alec Wilson (Butcher), J. Rima.
