TENNIS.

PLAINS V. AUCKLAND. The, annual tennis match between the representatives of the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association and a team from the Auckland Association w.as played at Ngatea on Saturday and resulted in a win tor the visitors by "12 sets to se,ven. The games, were •very interesting, and should prove instructive to the Plains players. The Auckland team was headed by Mr E. W. Griffiths, who stands fourth on the Auckland Association’s ladder. The othejr members, while not in the first ten, which includes the Dominion and Provincial champions, are very close up. The lady players are amongst Auckland’s best.

The results of the games .were; as follows, the Auckland players being mentioned first:—

Men’s Singles.—E. W. Griffiths beat G. L. Griffiths, 6—2, 6—2 ;D. Macfarlane beat W. E. Murphy, 6—2, 6—2 ; F. Sturt lost to S. Coppins, 6 —3, 2—6, 5 — 7; H. Martin beat E. Coppins, 6 — l,' 6 — 4 ; 0. Ellis lost to F. C. Rominson, 4 —6, 5 —6 ; Hilton beat A. Otter, 3— 6, 6—3, 6—l . Men’s Doubles.—Griffiths and Macfarlanej beat Griffiths and Murphy, 6—5, 5 —6, 6 —l ; StUrt and Ellis lost to Coppins and Coppins, 3—6, 5 — 6 ; Martin and Hilton lost to Robinson and Otter, 3—6, 2—6. Ladies’ singles.—Miss Napier lost to Miss Duffy, 3—6, 4 —6 ; Miss Wilson beat Mrs Speed}', 5—6, 6—o, 6 — l; Miss Asser beat Mrs Clotworthy, 6—4, 6—5; Miss Robertson beat Mrs Bird, 6—3, 3—6, 6—o. Ladies’ Doubles. —Misses N,apier and Wilson bqat Miss Duffy and Mrs Speedy, 6 —4, 6—2 ; Misses Asset and Robertson beat Mesdames Clotworthy and Bird, 6 —o, 6 —2.

Combined Doubles.—Sturt and Miss Napier lost to Robinson and Mrs Speedy, 5—6; Macfarlane and Miss Asser lost to S. Coppins and Mrs Clot—6, 5—6 ; Martin and Miss Robertson beat Crisp and Mrs Hudson, 6—5, 6—2. Totals Auckland, 12 sets ; Plains, 7 sets.
