POWER BOARD WORKS.
ENGINEER’S MONTHLY REPORT-
PAEROA AND PLAINS SECTIONS.
The following report for November was presented at Tuesday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Power Board by the engineer (Mr N. G, McLeod .
Kaihere-Patetonga. — Poling has n w been completed from the Kaihere end to the store corner at Patetonga, and wiring of the 11,000 volt low tension and telephone lines is proceeding. It is expected that powei will be made available by Christmas to consumers on the back road, probably as far as the school corner. Still further demands are being made for supply beyond what w>as signed up for on the canvass. Maratoto. —The work of pole erection and wiring of the 11.000 volt line to supply the Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mines has been completed for about three quarters of the total distance. The remaining portion is in difficult country, making necessary the use of explosives for sinking holes and the. use of wipch gear for getting the poles up the hills. The line is expected to be completed by about the end of January next. In answer to 'Mr Flatt the engineer said that the cost of. the line would be within the original estimatesOther than the sinking pf holes for the poles on a portion of the line no serious trouble had been experienced.
Paeroa. Borough.—ln connection with the Criterion bridge approaches it was necessary to shift one pole in the Paeroa-Waikino line and two in the Fraser Street line. On account of increased loading it was necessary to run an extra phase down Junction Road to give better supply. General.—At Orongo two poles were shifted to allow of the construction of the new Kopu bridge r«a<i On account of rot a pole was replaced on Sunday, November 27, at Turner’s Hill on the Paeroa-Waikino line. Trees menacing the lines have been cut back during the month in the Hauraki Plains district. Storm.—A severe electrical storm passed over the district about 7 a.m. on November 1. A number of, consumers were cut off owing to blownfuses, but many of them gave no notification that anything was amiss until late in the afternoon, with, the consequence that some were late in having their power restored. It would greatly assist our troublesmen, and at the same time benefit the consumers themselves if notification of interruption in supply is sent within half an hour, and if power is not restored within a reasonable period, for consumers to again notify the troublemen, or some other responsible officer of the board if the troubleman is not then available.
