The cost of living in New Zealand is now 61 per cent, higher than before the Gieat War, in Australia 45 per cent., in Canada 51 per cent., in South Africa 32 per cent., and i n Great Britain 67 per cent.
This week’s issue of the “N-Z. Sporting and Dramatic Review” again stands out conspicuously for its up-to-date and attractive series of illustrations. Particularly interesting are the photographs of the Takapuna Jockey Club’s meeting, the Feeding Jockey Club’s spring meeting, and the Waikato Trots at Claudelands. The ■centre pages are devoted to the British troops returning from China, the wine festival in Francp, radio conference in Washington, and the historical pageant. Attention is drawn to the excellent pi'ctures embracing the Auckland A. and P. Show.
"What a blessing this smoking is! Perhaps the greatest we owe (o the discovery of American.” So wroce the late Sir Arthur Helps, and millions of smokers the world over have doubtless endorsed his words. But great as is our indebtedness to America for giving usi the priceless boon of tobacco, the fact remains that practically all the American brands in use to-day contain an excess of nicotine. And that is bad, as any doctor will tell you. It is no less true that the purest tobaccos of all, i.e., those comparatively free from nicotine are our own New Zealand varieties. They are so pure in fact, that they may be indulged in with the utmost impunity. The leaf is toasted in the process of manufacture. Hence their delicious flavour and delightful fragrance. They come in several strengths, and are thus adapted to all tastes. You can got them at any tobacconist’s. Ask for “Riverhead Gold” mild, “Navy Cut” (Bulldog) medium, or “Cut Plug No. 10” (Bullshead) full strength.
