THE SHOW.

o—- — TO BE HELI) NEXT THURSDAY. RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED. Again record entries have been received in the majority of the classes for tiie Agricultural Show, to be held at Paer a next Thursday. The sheep entries are good, especially in tiie pedigree Romney Marsh section. As in former shows, the Jerseys again predominate. Four entries have beejr made in the group of pedigree Jerseys, one entry coming from Te Rapa from a well-known pedigree Jersey breeder, one from Matatoki, the others being local. The two-year-old bull class is exceptionally well filled, and the; competition will be keen. The yearling heifer and cow any age classes are also well entered for. A fair entry is also made in the grade Jersey section; The Friesian entry this year is the strongest that has been for years, tins perhaps being accounted for by tiie fact that this breed will compete for the Captain Hubbard Memorial Cup. There are no less than five groups for this competition, entries coming from as far as Matamata, Manawaru, and Turua. The competition for the; Hare Cup will also be keen, there being ten entries.

It is pleasing to mte that in the two classes for the children’s handreared calves there are seventeen entries.

Three groups of Boy Scouts will compete;, namely, Tauranga, Manawaru, and Paeroa. The horse section, which, perhaps, interests the general public more than any other portion of the show, promises to surpass, anything yejt attempted here. The thoroughbred classes show a distinct improvement on previous years, as also do the light harness horses, and especially the trotting event classes. The pony entries are as usual, good. The light horses are a long way above the average, and judging from the quality of ihorses nominated, the judge will have difficulty in awarding the ribbons. For the, 12 stone hunter there are 16 entries, 12 for the Dominion Hunter, including the winner of the £lOO prize at. Hamilton, Mrs 9. Merrin’s Twostep and other well-known hunters, such as Mr Samuel’s El Arish, Mr Ben. Myers’ Clever Belle, Mr E. D. Porritt’s Ginger Mick. The whole of the hunting section is a long way better than any previous year, and should attract considerable attention.

The; boys’ pony leaping competition is again strong, there being no less than a dozen entries. This competition always creates considerable interest, and the committee has this year wisely decided to put the event on earlier in the afternoon than formerly. The following judges have been appointed so far : Light horses, Mr C. W. Anderson, Kohimaramara, Auckland ; heavy horses and ponies, Mr R. Hines, Te Arolia ; Jerseys, Mr A. E. Watkin, Takanini; Friesians, Mr S. Rob’nson, Auckland ; milk stock, Mr W. Montgomery, Te Aroha. Working bees will be held to-mor-row and Wednesday next to put the grounds in order. As considerable work requires to be done it is hoped that as many members as possible will attend.
