MACKAYTOWN CINNABAR
EXPLOSIVES CO. INTERESTED.
EXPERT TO INSPECT FIND,
In a recent article in the Waihi Telegraph it was stated that cinnabar ore from Mackaytown was included among the samples sent to the Waihi School of Mines to be assayed, and it now transpires that the Nobel Explosives Company, which uses mercury, the liquid metal product of cinnabar, in the manufacture of explosives, particularly detonators and other percussion caps, is interested in the discovery.
The firm’s New Zealand representative, Mr J. Leggo, visited thej area in which the ore was found, and is reported to have pegged out a claim, which it is understood will shortly be inspected. by a mining engineer of high standing on behalf of the company. In the meantime a couple of men have been put on to open up the ore body containing the cinnabar in readiness for inspection. T.he Nobel Company is also interested in the cinnabar find at Puhi Puhi, Bay of Islands, and engaged, the expert who is to visit Mackaytown to report on the property, at the same time authorising the expenditure of a substantial sum of money in investigating the proposition.
