CRICKET.
LAST SATURDAY’S MATCHES. WAITOA. LEADS IN FIRST ROUND. The first round of the Piako Cricket Association’s .competition was concluded on Saturday afternoon last in fine weather. The] attraction locally was the game between the Paeroa A and Te Aroha A teams, which resulted in an easy win for the home side by 114 runs. Pa-eroa won the toss and elected to bat first, apd the innings produced 170 runs. The top scorers were J. Verrarn (42), G. Sale (4'o), W. H. Taylor (23), and J. Rackham (21). Te Aroha managed to compile only 56 runs, Wood, 18 not out, being the chief contributor. Following are the details : —

A NGATEA MATCH. At Ngatea the club organised a practice match, Married v. Single, which resulted in a win for the married men largely on account of the singlq men’s team being without the services of a capable wicket-keeper. The extras totalled 16, and the double figure scorers were J. Gribble (20') and R. Oornthwaite, (15). For the single men R. McPherson made 19 and F. Nicol 17, with Boyne and Chappell dividing the wickets.
