THAMES VALLEY RUGBY UNION.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the management committee of the Thames Valley Rugby Union was held on Saturday night, the president, Mr J. W. Silcock, presiding. SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR. A resolution, was passed voicing the opinion of t,he union that the manager of. the South African tour should not be confined to the ranks of the management committee, and that nominations should be obtained from the different unions and a selection made either at a general meeting of 'delegates or by postal ballot. A circular letter was read from the N.Z. Rugby Union inviting nominations of gentlemen eligible; and suitable for the position of manager of the New Zealand team. -The sailing date from New Zealand had been fixed for May 4, and from South Africa September 7. It was the intention of the management committee to make the appointment: towards the epd of the year. It was decided by resolution to nominate Dr. Lawrence, of Te Aroha, if he would accept nomination, failing which, support be given to' Mr Frost, chairman of the Auckland Rugby Union.

A letter was read from the Taranaki Rugby Football Unjon stating that Mr McLeod, wlhp had been a prominent officer and past president of the N.Z. Rugby Union, had been nominated for the position of .manager of the South African Touring team. It was decided that failing Dr. Lawrence or Mr Frost accepting nomination, Mr McLeod’s nomination be supported. DISQUALIFICATION; With reference to the disqualification of a Piako player for 12 months, it was decided to write and ask the Piako Union for a full report on the case. CUNNINGHAM SUBSCRIPTION. The sum of £2 2s was passed for the W. Cunningham Relief Fund. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. Financial assistance was granted to one of the sub-unions on a guarantee. ■AUDITOR. Mr G. E. Allen was appointed auditor to the Union. RULES AND BY-LAWS. The rules as previously put before the union were adopted with some slight amendments, and it was decided to forward them to the parent body for confirmation before being printed. SECRETARY. A vote of thanks was recorded to the secretary for his services.
