CONTRACTS LET.
THE TE KAURI IMPROVEMENTS.
The three big cottracts for the widening and deepening of the Te Kauri No. 1 drain were let by the Hauraki United Drainage Board at a special meeting held for the; purpose on Friday last.
The work involves the excavation of 30,380 cubic yards of spoil, and when completed the drain will be 30ft wide at the flood-gate, diminishing to 16ft at the junction with the Willow drain, and 20ft wide at"the one mile; peg, which is near the Turua-Nether-ton Road crossing. The bottom width throughout will be 2ft, and the batters of the banks will be one vertical to one horizontal.
On account of the magnitude of the work the job was let in three contracts. Number 1 contract, from the flood-gate to Huirau Road, 7800 cubic yards, approximately, was let to W. McLeod at Is 3d per cubic yard, and the work is to be completed by the end of February. Contract No. 2 from Huirau Road to the Turua-Neth ert:on road, approximately 12,300 cubfc yards, was let to Nicholas Vugnovich at Is Id per cupic yard, and is to be completed by the; end of February. The lemahiing contract, No. 3, from the Turua-Netherton road to the Willow drain, approximately 10.500 1 cubic yards, was let to Nicholas Vugnovich at Is per cubic yard, and is to be completed by the end of March. There were nine tenders for each contract, and in each case the lowest price was accepted.
