WAITOA DEFEATS PAEROA A.
PAEROA B WIN AT MORRINSVILLE
The semi-final games in the first round of the Piako Cricket Association’s competition were played on Saturday afternoon in fine weather. . The; attraction locally was the match between the Paeroa A team and Waitoa, which resulted in a victory for the visitors by the narrow margin of one run. There was a fair attendance of spectators, and excitement ran high when Paeroa’s last batsman went in and his team required two runs to win. Unfortunately he was got out lbw., and the innings closed. Waitoa. batted first, the top scorers being Cooper (19) and Edwards (14). For the home side Stack played a sterling innings for 14 not out, while G. Sale; and W. Taylor were responsible for 12 runs each. Following are the details : — WAITOA. The Paeroa B eleven journeyed to Morirnsville and secured a comfortable win by 31 runs on the first innings. A strong westerly wind prevailed, and towards the close of the game a heavy shower of rain, fortunately of short; duration, was experienced. As there was time to snare at the conclusion of the match, the teams played on until 7 p.m., but neither side completed the second innings.
Rolton lost the toss to Humphreys, and the Morrinsville team elected to bat first. The only player to reach double figures for the home side, was Jones, who scored 12 runs, before succumbing to a good ball sent down by Edwards. Unfortunately the bowling analysis was not kept throughout, but, credit is due to J. Knight, of the Paeroa team, who cleaned bowled six batsmen, got the seventh man 1.b.w., and performed the “hat trick” by capturing three wickets for no runs . Indeed, a meritious record. The top-score,r for Paeroa w’as J. M. Fox, who compiled 20 runs, Rolton being next with 18. This makes the third win for the B team, as it has defeated Te Aroha B, Paeroa A, and Morrinsville.

The third of the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association’s inter-club competition matches were played on Saturday in fine but windy weather. At Turua the home team went in first and knocked up 131, including 77 by R. D. Macklow and 22 by H. Owens. W. O’Neil took seven wickets for 33 runs. Pipiroa then went in, and with 33 by W. O’Neil secured 53. Following on, Pipiroa made 29 for eight wickets, Turua thus gaining a twopoint win.
Kopuarahi secured a two-point win at Kaihere by making 64 runs to 53. Bowling for Kopuarahi, R. Connors took all the wickets for 5 runs. At Orongo Ngatea secured a threepoint win with a loss of six wickets only, declaring whqn 70 runs had been secured. Orongo made 30 and 14 in two innings. Young (Ngatea) took 12 wickets for 15 runs.
