After a long discussion, in the course of which several members paid , tribute to the sterling work of the sister concerned over a period of four years’ service with the board, it was resolved to defer the question of an increase of salary, together with that of the; medical superintendent, for one month. On behalf of the hospital committee Mr J. Lange reported that the Director-General of Health had inspected the institution during Ihis recent visit t,o Thames and had expressed his satisfaction. It was remarked by Mr Lange + ihat January was a long way off, and in his opinion action as outlined by the report was an urgent matter. < In reply the chairman said that by considering tne matter at the January •meeting the holiday would be allowed to pass off without interference. There was no urgejnt hurry. THE SUPPLY OF MILK.
■Mr Lange mentioned that although the cows were reported to be doing well at the farm, he noticed that 53 gallons of milk had been purchased outside last month.
The chairman explained that the supply of milk to the institutions was governed by contracts which were reviewed every t,wo weeks. Arrangements had been made with a local milkman to supply a specified quantity. The arrangement had worked satisfactorily, although during the first half of October more milk was received than was actually required. That position, which had since been righted, could not be helped, as the contract had to be honoured. The board was not buying milk at present, and the supply was carried out on business-like lines and proved a good system. ___
