At Thursday night’s meeting of the, Paeroa Borough Council it was decided to prosecute the five motorists who were caught exceeding the speed limit on Thames Road, Paeroa, on October 24.
The purchasing power of the sovereign during the quarter ended September 30, 1927, was upwards of onethird less than in pre-war times, its actual value in buying commodities being only 12s sd, a drop of 7s 7d. For the quarter ended September 30, 1926, its worth was 12s 3d, which means that to the; housewife there has been a gain in its value in the twelve months of twopence.
A meeting of the district suppliers’ committees of the N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., was held at the Soldiers’ Club, Paeroa, on Friday. Mr Dynes Fulton, cha'rman of directors, presided, and with him were Messrs C. J. Parlane, of the head office staff, and G. Buchanan, local director. Matters affecting the, present season’s operations, cartage routes, and the Daylight Saving Act were fully considered.
The practice of mixing concrete and otherwise blocking the footpath by the contractor for the new building in Belmont Road was mentioned by Cr. P. E. Brenan ah the Borough Council meeting on Thursday night. He pointed out that very little; consideration was being shown to pedestrians. The Mayor said that the contractor had been granted permission so long as lie left four feet clear of footpath. The matter would be; looked into, and the contractor ordered to erect a hoarding along the frontage of the building and carry on the work inside the hoarding.
The Ngatea butter factory is the only N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Company butter factory which is not working to summer time, was ‘a statement made by the visiting Government grader.
In answer to Cr. W. Turner, at the Borough Council meeting on Thursday night the Mayor said that the; complaint about the placing of offensive matter on the dump in Nahum Street had been attended to and the debris covered with soil. Persons found placing offensive matter on the dump would be prosecuted. A borough employee had been instructed to keep an eye on the area and to at once report any irregularities. There should not be cause for further complaint. Ordinary vegetation should not become offensive so long as it was covered with soil.
