TE AROHA A BEATS PAEROA B.

The second games in the first round of the Piako Cricket Association’s competition were; played in fine weather on Saturday afternoon; The Paeroa A team journeyed to Te Arolia, where it defeated the Te Aroha B team by 193 runs to 25. ‘ The attraction locally was a match between the Paeroa B team and Te Aroha A. An interesting contest resulted ip a comfortable win for the visitors by 40 runs. The home side batted twice. Paeroa went in first, and the only man to make a stand and reach double figures was J. M. Fox, who compiled 23 runs, including four 4’s. For Te Aroha Woodroffe with 29 was top scorer. Taylor (23) and Wood (12) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures. THE GAME AT TH AROHA. As was to be expected, the local A team had little difficulty in defeating the Te Aroha B team on Saturday, winning by 168 runs. Paeroa’s leading batsman, Gt Sale, compiled 88 runs. This is the largest individual score made locally this season, and Sale received an ovation wihen he returned to the stand. J. Rackham played good all-round! cricket, and knocked up 40 runs, while J. Verran battqd well before being caught by Treimain when his scare had reached 28. The top scorer for the home team was Russell, who carried his bat for 5.

In spite of the fact that at times Paeroa “missed” badly, the fielding was acclaimed by even the opponents as excellent. Very few 1 long-distance catches were missed by Paeroa’s outfielders, and some of them were nathing short of remarkable. The end of the first innings saw Paeroa in the lead with 4'5 against 38. In the second innings Karangahake brought their total up to 79. Paeroa commenced their second innings, and with only six wickets down had a total for the match of l 82. Paeroa then declared, winning by 5 wickets and 3 runs. Karangahake’s top score was 22, by W. Smith, and Paeroa’s was 29, by M. Mayo. Karangahake gave Paeroa 19 extras, while Paeroa gave Karangahake 8. Next Saturday it is anticipated that Karangahake will, play Paeroa A at Paeroa. TEAMS FQR SATURDAY. On Saturday next the competition will be continued, the Paeroa A and B teams meeting on the local domain.
