It will be seen that the finances of the board for the half year just ended are in a very satisfactory condition. The returns show that the, power funds account will balance without any assistance from the trading department, being the first occasion since the board commenced operations. The figures also show that the administration and maintenance are being kept down to a minimum, and wherever possible the, strictest economy is being exercised. It is confidently expected that the revenue estimates for the year will be again exceeded, and if the Daylight Saving Act will not affect the peaks to any extent, then it is also safe to state that the expenditure will not be increased. As already mentioned thisi is the most satisfactory return yet placed before; the board. Line to Patetonga.—The recentlyconstructed line to Patetpnga. from Ngatea is developing increased, loading from the settlers in the district, and it is fully anticipated that the revenue offering from his line will make it a very payable; one within the next twelve months. Consumers. —The total number of consumers connected to the board’s mains on October 30 y/as 4960. In these figures Thames and Te Aroha Boroughs are not included, the consumers' in the Thames Borough being 1033, and in the Te Aroha Borough 616. 49 lighting and heating consumers, 56 water heaters, 9 electric ranges, together with 36 motors on farms, of which 29 are 2 h.p. milking motors, were connected during the month. There are now connected and operating 1254 water heaters, 20'9 electric ranges, and the total number of motors connected and running on farms is 2222, of which 1732 are 2di.p. milking motors. From the above figures will be seen that the board has now over 2000 motors.' installed and operating on farms in thes area, together with 350 industrial motors on meters in town areas, ranging from %-h.p. to 100-h.p. 23 motors connected during the month are on already existing lines. The comp has now been shifted to Patetonga township. “ Maratoto. —The preliminary work of erecting hut, clearing tracks, distributing material, etc., has been finished and a good start made on the erection of the 11000 volt, line towards the Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mines.
