NGATEA. CHURCH BAZAAR. ThiX ladjes of the Anglican Church Guild, Ngatea, held a very successful bazaar on Wednesday last, in aid of the fund for building a church at Ngatea, and close on £lOO was raised. The sale was opened at 2 p.m. by the. Rev. W. W. Averill, who thanked those who had contributed by work or good Sf. From then on brisk business was done by the various stallholders, and competition organisers. The stall-holders were as follows!: Sweets, Mrs Cotter and Miss U. Birkenhead; cakes and produce, Mrs Vowles and Mrs Waite; sewing, _>frs 'Darlington and Mrs Wade", fancy goods, Mrs McCarthy and Mrs Williams ; refreshments, Mrs Coppins, Mrs King, and Mrs Shaw. Mrs Birkenhead’s competition stall was a centre of attraction, a profit of ~15 being made, while until late at night a queue was lined up waiting to con suit Romany Rose (Miss Tizard). Among the competition winners we.re the following : Bull board, Mr G. Birkenhead; nail-driving, Mrs Cornthwaite and Mr G. Birkenhead; weight of pig (271bs), Mr W. G. Hayward (27%1b5) ; length of string, (15ft), Mrs A. Cleaver (15ft 4ins) ; doll’s name (Priscilla), no one guessed so was drawn and won by Enid Montgomery ; guessing the number of articles in bottles for the following prizes : Painting, V. Rolfe- (291 actual) ; calf, W. Beck 495 (actual 529) ; dress,, Mrs Flavell (108 actual); box of chocolates', Mr R. Cornthwaite (60 actual) ; two geiese, Mr C. Bertelsen (99 actual) ; cruet, Mrs Williams 298 (actual 297) ; cake, P. Schultz and A’. E. Wade tied (900 actual) and divided the cake. During the evening dancing was engaged in, the music being supplied by Miss Birkenhead’s orchestra and by Mrs Waite 4 and Mrs Barriball.
