OCTOBER FIGURES FOR PAERO A.

SEVEN DAYS’ LIGHT RAIN.

Th© rainfall figures for Paeroa for the month of October, as recorded by the Public Works Department, show that the rainfall was considerably below the average. Rain fell on seven days only, the heaviest Jail being on October- 24, when 1.19 inches were registered. The total rainfall for the month was only 1.96 inches, which is 6.77 inches less than for the corresponding month in 1926. The total rainfall in October, 1923, was 3.68 inches ; in 1924, 5.39 inches ; in 1925, 3.16 inches ; and in 1926, 8.73 inches. Thus it will be seen that October, 1927, is the driest October for four years.

The total rainfall for the first tqn months of this year was 40.60 inches, which is 11.74 inches less than for the corresponding period in 1926. The highest reading of the barometer was 30.58 degrees, on October 27, and the lowest was 29.87 degrees* on October 6, On which day 0.01 of an inch of rain fell. The (hottest day last month was on the 22nd, when the temperature rose to 62 degrees, the average for the month being 55 degrees and the lowest reading 47 degrees, which was experienced on October 3.

Since the beginning of this month there has been a copious rainfall locally which was badly needed to freshen up pastures and give more body and substance to the, grass and root crops. The season so far has been very mild, and there is an abundance of feed for stock. f 1
