DAYLIGHT SAVING.
HOURS FOR PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL
DISCUSSION BY COMMITTEE.
At a meeting of the committee of the Paeroa District, High School the question of hours to be observed under the daylight saving scheme was discussed at length. The chairman (Mr W. T. Power) explained that since the removal of, the post office, and to enable children to transact postal business before school hours and yet get to school in time, the hour of assembly in the mornings had been put back to 9.15 o’clock, the extra quarter of an hour being taken from the luncheon adjournment. Thq Education Board had thrown the onus on committees of deciding upon suitable hours under the Summer-time Bill.
It was pointed out by Mr J. W. Silcock that the extra quarter of an hour in the mornings did not greatly affect the school routine, while it madej a great difference to parents. He thought that if the same hours were observed under the new scheme it should work quite satisfactorily and still give the children an additional three-quarters of x an hour of
In answer to the; chairman the headmaster (Mr G. H. Taylor) said that the present hours were working satisfactorily. Of a roll number of 434 there were over 50 children who lived two miles' or over from the school. If farmers were not going to observe the new time difficulties would arise. There were also the children who travelled by train to be considered.
Is was contended by Mr C. H. Pascoe that all sections of the community should observe thq one time. It did not matter what time was, observed by the school, it was bound not to suit everybody.
Finally it was moved by Mr C. T. Mettam, and seconded by Mr J. H, McDonald, that the committee - adhere to the present school hours under the Daylight Saving Scheme, and that the position be reviewed again later in the year.
