The Summer Tima Act will not be observed to any extent on the Hauraki Plains. The determining factor is that the N.Z. Co-operative Dah-y Co.’s factory at Ngatea. will work as at present, and all the cream-cartage contractors will run an hour later by the clock when the time is advanced. Most of the schools will also commence an -hour later.
A start was made with spraying the second coat of bitumen on the upper section of Normanby Road this morning and the work will be completed to-day. This section would have been finished and open for traffic on Friday last but for operations being delayed on account of rain.
The. new class-room at the Ngatea District High School is to be officially opened by the chairman of the Auckland Education Board, Mr A. Burns, at 2 p.m. on Thursday next. There will be afternoon tea and an exhibition of schoolwork by the' scholars Parents and friends are invited to be present..
A couple of energetic members of the Paeroa Beautifying Society were at work shortly after 5 o’clock one morning last week. The area to receives attention was the garden plot near the Arne y Street-Normanby Road corner. This plot has been cleared pf weeds and rubbish, and a plentiful planting of seasonable flowers, chief of which ar© marigolds, has been made. A great improvement has been made in the appearance of the plot, and in a few weeks it should be an object of much beauty. The society requires volunteers to assist with the erection of a ne-w pergola for roses, to replace ,the one which ,wias blown down during a gale some time ago.
An interesting announcement appears in our advertising colqmns relating to Messrs V. Vuglar and Co’s, cash butchery business in Normanby Road, Paeroa.”
Although the Piako River does not appear to be very inviting to bathers, the numbers who swim in its light brown water each summer are steadily increasing. An effort is to be made in Ngatea this week to found a swimming club.
The Waitakaruru-Miranda clay road has been disced as fay as the New Brighton turn-off by the Hauraki Plains County Council’s plant, under arrangement with the Whangamarino Road Board and the; Waikato County Council, and motorists are now using this route to Pokeno. The council’s discs and grader are now working towards Kaihere, and the work is completed to beyond Mangatarata.
