Good progress has been made with the bituminising of Normanby Road. A section from the Arney Street intersection for a distance of about five chains towards the Bank of New Zealand corner has received the first dressing for the whole distance. Nearly half the area has received a second spraying and layer of metal chips, and the section would have been completed and opened to traffic to-day had not the heavy rain this morning delayed operations.
The westerly wind which prevailed yesterday apparently revised the swamp fire in the Awaiti area. Last night there was a bright glow in the western sky, and this morning the heavens over that locality are darkened by heavy clouds of smoke.
To-morrow, the train -usually leaving Paqroa for Te Aroha at 11.25 a.m. will be delayed on account, of a bowling tournament at Te Aroha.. See Railway Department’s advertisement in this issue.
