PLAINS CRICKET.

ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL MEETING.

DRAW FOR SEASON. Thq Hauraki Plains Cricket Association held its annual meeting at Ngatea on Wednesday evening, Mr J. G. Miller presiding over Messirs H. Owens and R. D. Macklow (Turua), J. Terrill and R. Cornthwaite (Ngatea), H. L. Berney and C. Stretton (Waitakaruru), C. Parfitt and G. Galvin (Pipiroa), T. McKay (Kopuarahi), J. Bradley (Orongo), and F. L. Wallis, hon. secretary. The; president welcomed the Orongo delegate, wiho explained that he had been appointed to investigate the question of affiliating with the association. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report, stated that the past season had been very successful. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory position. The numerous wet Saturdays last season interfered with club and representative matches, while the lateness of commencing play prevented ihany matches being completed. The association’s representatives had been beaten oncq, all other matches being uncompleted'. The prospects for the coming season appeared particularly bright, and with a fair s|hare of fine days the various l competitions should prove) very interesting. Attention was drawn to the fact that many players selected for representative matches had not notified the selectors of their Inability to play. Mention, was made of the cred; itablq selection of the representative teams by Mr J. G. Miller and thanks wetre accorded the ladies of! the district who had catered for visiting players. OFFICERS. The following officers were appointed : Patron, Mr B. L. Walton ; president, Mr J. G. Miller ; vice-prepidents, Messrs W. E. Hale, T. McKay, T. McClean, F. Basham J. Porter, D. McAulay, J. Mules, W. Stone; (Kaiher®), J. Gi Miller (Kopuarahi), and H. L. Berney (Waitakaruru). TWO-DAY MATCHES.

Mr McKay introduced the question of playing the inter-club competition by two-day matches. The Kopuarahi club favoured the system.

Mr Terrill supported t|he proposal.

Messrs Berney and Macklow opposed, contending that the change would cause many defaults on the second day.

Mr Wallis suggested the adoption of the method now used in the Waikato—that is, of allowing four points for an outright win; three points to the winner and one point to the loser where a match was won on. the first innings ; three points each 'for a tie (level scoring) ; and two points each for a draw where there was no decision in the first innings. ;

Mr Parfitt spoke against the idea of two-day matches. Mr McKay said that the whole trouble was due to the lateness of commencing play. By - playing two short days there should, he just about sufficient time to complete matches.

Mr Parfitt suggested, that play be commenced at 11 a.m. and concluded at 4 p.m., instead of 3 p-an. as In previous seasons.

As the rules of the. association provided for one-day matches, and a notice of motion would be required to alter the rule, no decision was reached, but Mf Parfitt’s .suggestion of playing till 4 p.nv was adopted. It was decided that the competition commence ion November 5. THE DRAW.
