THE LOAN PROPOSAL.

Sir,— I would like to publish the following explanation about the loan for which a poll, is being held to-mor-row, as some people do not, seem to quite understand the facts. It has cost all the ratepayers, roughly, £950 per annum to repair the old roads, and there is now nothing to show for spending this money. If the loan is carried it will only cost about £5OO per annum to keep tihe new road in order, and about £450 per annum will provide interest and sinking fund, so that the ratepayers will not have to find any more money than before. They will have, in addition, the best of roads, and at the end of 15 years the loan will be repaid and the) £450 will be available for other purposes.

If tihe loan is not carried, however, it will cost moro than ever to repair the now’ road in its present unfinished state, and in the end the work so far done will be wasted and the ratepayers will have to raise a loan to put down a good road in the end. SIDE STREET RATEPAYER.
