PAEROA DOMAIN.

MONTHLY BOABD MjEWNG.

WORK ON THE AREA. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Domain Board was held last Thursday night, the chairman (Mr W. Marshall) presiding over Messrs P. EBrenan, J. W. Silcock, E. Edwards, F. E. Flatt, H. J. Hare, E. A. Porritt, W. Turner, ’and W. C. Alexander (secretary). The report from the superintendent (Mr W. Hamilton) on the different work the had done during the last three months was read and approved. With reference to the football ground, a few weeks ago th© superintendent was asked by the football representatives to give his opinion as to what he thought was best to do with the ground, as it was in such a bad state. He had suggested having a few loads of soil put in the hollows, which would have answered the purpose at the time and would have saved filling now. There were then only a fe(w hollows, but now there were quite a number. In the present state of the ground TOO loads of soil would not make a very appreciable difference, and he would advise that as ■much soil as possible should be carted to fill in hollows, apd where deepest to have seed sown. A return for the time spent on work on varbus parts of the domain during the period was given as follows : Bowling greeji, 89% hours; croquet lawn, 90% hours; football ground 32 hours; and on general work 383 hours. In moving the adoption of the/report Mr Brenan said that the football field required a certain amount of topdressing, and that it could be done with spoil f rojn the site of the municipal baths. He thought thQ filing in of the moat could, be deferred until later on. Certain repairs had been effected to a number of seats at the bowling and croquet pavilions. USE OF CRICKET GROUND An application was received from the Paeroa Cricket Club for the use of the Domain for a field during the coming season. Permission was also spught to put down a concrete or bitumen pitch. Mr Brenan moved that thq request be granted, and that the rental for the ground be £3 for the season. DOMAIN TENNIS COURTS. The Paeroa Presbyterian Bible Class wrote making application for the hire of one of the tennis courts in the Domain, and pointing out that with the increase in membership, and providing the; rental was; not too high, both courts would probably be required. On the motion of Mr Brenan it was resolved that in view of the fact that the courts required reconstructing, and owing to the slender finances of the board, it did not propose to make a charge this season and the courts would be open free to the public. It was pointed out that if the applicants intended to function as a tennis club the board would be pleased to receive a donation for the use of the courts.
