While a' listing with the decorations at the Gaiety Theatre, Paeroa, yesterday, a young man named G. Radford, an employee of Messrs Short Bros-., fell on the; slippery floor. In attempting to save himself Rad- - ford threw out his left arm, which went through a window. The result was that the muscles of the arm were severely lacerated. The injured man was quickly conveyed to Dr T. G. Smith’s surgery, and fourteen stitches were inserted in the arm-
On Wednesday next the Paeroa Ladies? Golf Club intends to hold a final day for the season on the links, commencing at 11 am., when a medal round will be played before lunch. It is hoped that as many members as possible will’ be present.

Included in the works Committee’s report to Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council was the following: “Observations made- daily during the last, few weeks indicate a persistent increase in traffic on main streets, in connection with which speeding is without question doing considerables damage which ist avoidable. particularly as traffic always confines itself largely to one-wheel tracks, even where excellent smallchip surfaces have been provided. These two factors are of serious detriment to the consolidation of the new work preparatory to bitumen sealing. Therefore wei ask for authority to purchase a stop-watch and for the appointment of temporary inspectors, who may be authorised from time to time under the hand of the town clerk.’’ It was decided to purchase a stop-watcih and appoint an inspactor forthwith.
The necessity for the examination of children from two to five years was mentioned by Dr, Elizabeth Gunn at Palmerston North when, out of 35 children who were ejxamined by her, six were found to have nasal obstruc. tion and four rickets, while five had other diseases and nine betrayed evidence of malnutrition.
On the resolution of Cr. J. A. Reid, at Thursday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council it was decided that steps be taken to raise a .■ uni of £2OOO for the. purpose of reconditioning the Netherton Old Road, ard that the work be gone on with as soon as the money was available. In ieply to Cr. J. F. Mayn the chairman (Cr E. L. Walton) said that as the money was a portion of an amount previously authorised by the. ratepayers it would be unnecessary to refer the matter to the Local, Government Leans Board.
