The following vital statistics for Paeroa for the month of September have been supplied by the local registrar (Mr W. E. Ward), figures; for the, corresponding month in 1926 being given in parentheses : Births, 4 (16) ; deaths, 1 (3) ; marriages, 2' (0).
Several of the Auckland Rugby players spoke eulogistically of the Paeroa Domain and playing field on Saturday afternoon. One member of the team, in pointing out how fortunate the Paeroa people were to possess such a splendid asset, gave it as his opinion that there was not a better Rugby football ground at Auckland.
A revaluation of the: Ohinemuri County is at present in progress. The last valuation was made ten years ago.
The death took place suddenly at the Waihi Hospital on Saturday morning of James Alexander Stewart, only surviving son of Mr and Mrs Charles Stewart, of Waikino. The deceased Was only sixteen years of age, and wa<. highly esteemed by his friends. While playing football on the prevL ous Saturday he received, an injury which was not at first thought serious but a few days later was admitted to the hospital, where all that skill could do proved of no avail. Mr and Mrs Stewards only other son was jone of the victims of the Waikino School tragedy of a, few years ago.
Tha,t the Daylight .Saving Bill would seriously affect operations was contended by Mr F. E. Flatt at yesterday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board. He pointed out that if the dairy farmers wde not a party to the measure it would seriously affect the board’s peak load by reason of the extra hour night and morning. On the motion of Mr JPrice it was decided to ask the Public Works Department for one: month’s notice to enable the board to make adjustments to its power load. In seconding, the chairman said that the first month’s operations most likely would not be off the peak, and he thought it was a reasonable concession to ask for.
Mr T. W. Welch, of Netherton, advises in this issue; that he has been appointed resident agent for Timberlands Ltd., whose scheme provides for works to be erected costing £250,0000 for manufactures from wood pulp. The profits, according to figures should be; very lucrative. Mr Welch has also been appointed resident agent for Provincial Flaxgrowers and Millers Association, Ltd., which has an area of over 2500 acres adjacent to the Pokeno railway station, 1800 acres of which are now bearing thej highest quality flax. The company guarantees shareholders 10 per cent, per annum profit. Shares in both companies are obtainable on easy terms, ami Mr We-lel; is open' to appoint agents for Thames, To Arolia, and Waihi.
