PLAINS CLAY ROADS.

OPENING FOR SUMMER TRAFFIC.

WORK BY COUNTY EMPLOYEES

Hauraki Plains County employees commenced on Monday afternoon to open the unmetalled roads of the county for summer traffic. At the present time the clay is almost dry, and the road surface; is; too, rough and hard for any vehicular traffic. The Puhanga Canal road, which is the outlet, for the Kaihere district, is now receiving attention, and the next road to be treated will be the Pekapeka-Wairau section of the highway.

As experience in previous years has shown that in the event, of a wet spring the roads require treating several timejs, the county engineer, Mr F. Basham, has decided that harrows and discs shall be used in the early part of this season, as these implements do the work quicker than a grader and therefore at legs cost. Grading will be done later in the season, when there is a| reasonable chance of the work enduring.
