THE YEAR’S OPERATIONS.
The annual report of the Public Trust Office, presented to Parliament last week, stated that 3581 new estates, of a value of £5,551,019, were accepted for administration during the year, an increase of 228. „ “The investments of the office, states the report, “have now reached a total of £2G,179,886, and the assets, other than those which are the property of estates under administration, amount to £1,135,690 in all. Of the investments, £15,583,706, or considerably more than ono-half of the total investments, represent mortgages secured upon land in the Dominion for advances on loan made, to farmers, business men, and others. The sum of £8,298,026 has also been lent to local bodies for the fuitheianee of works of public service and utility. The investments made during the year total £2,812,643 .and the net increase in the investments and office assets amounted to £2,083,001.”
