TROUT FISHING.
SEASON OPENS ON SATURDAY.
PROSPECTS IN OHINEMURI.
The; season for trout fishing in the Ohinemuri Acclimatisation Society’s district opens on Saturday ne>xt, October 1.
Owing to the recent spell of continuous heavy rain it is not expected that the local streams; will, be in firstclass condition at present. The WaiRiver, which is the principal stream, should provide better fishing this season, as, it is expected that the log-driving operations in the upper reaches will shortly be discontinued. In the past the enormous rus.h of water from the dams when they were tipped had a serious effect, on the trout, and spoiled the, fishing.
The Hikutaia, Komata, Waitekauri, and Ohinemuri streams (the upper reaches; of the latter above Waikino) have provided quite good sport in the past, and it is considered that they will be even better this season.
