Redress and compensation for alleged unlawful committal to and detention in a mental hospital are claimed in a petition presented again to Parliament on Tuesday on behalf of a returned soldier, Alfred Robert Daniel Box, of Port Chalmers. Petitioner claims that he was never insane ; that he was brought before a stipendiary magistrate; and that he was unlawfully committed and detained at the Seacliff Mental Hospital whether he was insane or not. As the result of his conflneunent at Seacliff petitioner alleges that his health and nerves have been injuriously affected, and that he has been unable; to secure work on the waterfront.
