-THE CURTAIN-RAISER. As a curtain-raiser to the senior game the Paeroa primary school A team defeated the Paeroa B team by 14 points to 13. In the first half the B team played with four men short, while the A team, which was; also shoit, filled up with boys who were ineligible to play in the regular team. Before resuming after half-time all the vacancies were filled. This is the first game this season in which the B team has suffered defeat. For the A team tries were scored by Edwards (2), Fulton, and Noel Wilson, the latter one being converted by E. Verran. For the B team the whole of the points, comprising three tries, two of which were converted, were scored by Ken. Curtis. Mr T. C. Arnold was referee. WAIKINO DEFEATS WEST. The West junior team journeyed to Waikino, where an inter-club match wlas played, resulting in a win. for the home team by nine points to nil. The scorers for Waikino were Stewart and Sorensen, who registered a try each, and Luther, who kicked a penalty goal. Two important points in the development of school children —the essentiality of a properly controlled lunch and the value of swimming as an exercise—were emphasised by Dr. R. J. Macredy, school medical officer in the course' of his report to the Taranaki Education Board last week. Dr. Macredy said he was interested to note that in Haw'era. the school lunch was controlled by a teacher, arid the children prohibited from using the playground until 20 minutes had elapsed from lunch. In Eltham, while the lunch in itsjelf was not controlled, the children were not allowed on the playground until 20 minutes had elapsed at the midday interval. “A properly controlled lunch,” remarked the doctor, “is essential to the health of the child who lunches away from home.” For Sale.
