PAEROA RUGBY UNION.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union Committee was 'held in Mr Bain’s Rooms on Monday evening, the following being present: Messrs C. T. Mettam (chairman), H. M. Shand, J. Pinder, E. P. Fathers, C. H. Potter, and R. Hodson (secretary)., Mr Pinder who managed the roa team which visited Thames on September 10, spoke highly of the hospitality and consideration shown the visitors. The West club was granted permission to play a junior match against Waikino at Waikino on Saturday next. CHARITY SATURDAY. The secretary was instructed to write to the Piako Rugby Union and Mr J. Roach, Te Aroha, suggesting i dates for the Sprague Shield competition. The suggested date of the Thames Valley Power Board v. Public Works Department was October 10, at Te Aroha, the winners to play the N.Z. Railways team (holders of the shield) at Paeroa on October 15. It was also resolved to apply to the Piako Rugby Union for a cheque in connection with the competition which was played last year. DRYSDALE CUP TEAMS. The following have been selected to represent East in the final game agianst the. Veterans in the Drysdale Cup competition at the local domain on Saturday:— C. Treanor, F. Barakat, E. Moore, C. McNeil, T. Ryan, D. Smith, R. Hounslow, R. Smith, E. Johnson, S> Boyer, T. Lovett. F. Fitch, N. Neil, T. Pullar, R. Bullock. Emergencies: T. Radford, C. Vincent, H. Moore. The following will comprise the Veterans team:— E. L. Shaw. L. McNeil, A. Royal, J. Maloney, J. McCarroll, G. Masters, G. Royal, T. Johnson, L. E. Shaw, B. Neil, V. Young, J. Poland, F. T. V. Johnson, F. Thorp, W. White.. Emergencies: Backs, J. Barrett, P. E. Brenan ; forwards, G. Neil, B. Fisher, M. H. Chamberlain. The Veterans team is requested to attend at the Drillshed at 7.30 o’clock to-morrow night for practice. PLAINS MATCH AT AUCKLAND. TEAM SELECTED FOR SATURDAY. The following Hauraki Plains team has been selected to play the Suburbs seniors at Auckland on Saturday:— , E. Cosjiello, D. Molesworth, C. Wilton, M. Madgwick, E. Smart, J. McPhejrson, F. Franks, R. Phillips, S. Dalgety. R. Williams,. R. C. Abel, RHutchinson, D. Hutchinson, F. Mulgrew, P. Clark. Emergencies : Backs, L. Killgour, R. Walters, R. Madgwick; forwards, H. Kirkman, L. Wilson. The team will assemble at Ngatea at 8 a.m. sharp on Saturday. VISIT OF AUCKLAND TEAM. GAME ON OCTOBER 1. j Following on representations made by the Thames Valley Rugby Union, advice has been received that the Auckland Rugby Union intends to send a representative team to play Thames Valley at Paeroa on Saturday week, October 1.
Given fine weather, the game should prove particularly interesting and a sparkling exhibition’ of Rugby should be witnessed. Owing to the Auckland Union having completed its principal fixtures for the season it is likely that a number of the A grade players will make the trip. A substantial sum has, been guaranteed the Auckland Union, and it is hoped that the public will jrise to the occasion and support the enterprise of the local union in arranging the fixture.
