VALEDICTORY.
FUNCTION AT NGATEA.
MISS CHARTERIS FAREWELLED.
Miss N. Chatteris, of Turua, who is leaving shortly to take up nursing in the Wellington Public Hospital, was publicly farewelled at Ngatea on Satday evening. Miss Charteris is an accomplished step dancer and. ner services were always available for church and other entertainments throughout the district. Thus a large number of her personal friends attended a dance in her honour in the Ngatea Hall,’and as the usual patrons of the weekly dances were also present, the attendance was very large. After supper, Mr J. C. Miller, of Kopuarahi, in making a presentation of a roll of notes.', said that the large number present showed that the performances and work of Miss Charteris in the district had been appreciated. She had left her mark, and would not be forgotten. The Rev. Charteris responded on behalf of his daughter, and expressed her grateful thanks for acknowledging the little she had done in the district.
During the evening a progressive euchre tournament was; held, the prize-winners being Mrs F. L. Wallis and Mr Schwartz, of Pipiroa while the “booby” prizes went to Mrs. D. Dalgety, of Pipiroa, and Mr R. Taylor, of Te Aroha.
Songs were contributed during the evening by the Rev. Charteris and Mr T. D. Wallace, of Turua. Mr J. Neate was M.C., and the music was.supplied by Mr Ludlow’s orchestra, and was favourably commented on.
