HOCKEY.

MEN DEFEAT THE LADIES.

LAST SATURDAY’S MATCH.

On Saturday afternoon the Paerooa ladies’ hockey team played a match with an eleven composed of young men at the local domain. Owing to the heavy rain which fell before the game commenced the going was rather heavy, and to add to the discomfort of the players the greater part of the game was played in a drizzling rain. Nothing daunted , the ladies, tackled their more doughty opponents in good style and, despite the conditions prevailing, the contest was thoroughly enjoyed by the participants. As might be expected, the men scored a fairly easy victory, to the tune of four goals to two. For the men S. Denize registered two goals and L. Mahon and J. Conolly one each. For the ladies Miss L. Ellis shot both goals. The Rev. W. H. G. Weadon was referee.
