PROGRESS DURING AUGUST.
ENGINEER’S REPORT.
At yesterday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council- the following report for the month was submitted by the acting-engineer, Mr L. E. Shaw “All work authorised at last meeting has been held up on account of the continued wet weather. As a good deal of me-tal is, required oh various roads an attempt was made to crush metal at, the Komata reserve, but this work had to be: discontinued for the same reason.
“Kaimanawa Riding.—Regarding Mr Murdoch’s request to have pipes- put under Ferry Road so as to extend his boundary drain to the road, drain, twenty-four 12in concrete pipes have been placed in position by the council’s workmen, and Mr Murdoch has agreed to, pay for the whole of the labour and material used.
“Concerning Mr Avery’s application to have a pipe supplied for a crossing over a drain constructed by Him, I wish to state that the pipe- intended tor this culvert has not come to hand, but will be delivered at an early date. “In regard to the Whangamata Settlers’ Association’s request to have the road through Mr W. Alley’s property kept open, I may state that. I visited this locality and interviewed Mr Alley on the matter, and since doing so have prepared an estimate of the cost and handed same to the chairman, who will no doubt report to the meeting. “Authority has been received from the Public Works Department for the spending of the grant on Maoriland Road, Waitekauri. Tenders have been called, and are to close at the Council Chambers at 2 p.m. this day.
“Acting under instructions from the chairman, tenders have also been called for the purchase of the old Ford truck, and same also close at 2 p.m. this day.
“Specifications for the improving of Maratoto Road from Mcßrinn’s Creek to the Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mine have been prepared and sent to the Public Works Department for ap-
proval. “Main Highways.—Ordinary maintenance has been carried out on all highway®. At the boundary of this county jpid the Tauranga county a main highway notice board defining the county boundary has been erected.”
