At its last meeting a deputation headed by Mr Edgar W. Harris waited upon the Plains County Council an/1 urged that a Government subsidy of £2 (or £1 should be applied for and a special rating area constituted. The council was favourable to the scheme, which is estimated to cost £2OOO. Gravel from the Torehape Stream and Waikumete Stream, situated at either end of the stretch to be- metalled, will enable the work to be done economically. Messrs T. W. Rhodes (Thames) and A. M.
