THE PUBLIC DEBT.

AN AMOUNT OF £182,113,695. £912,020 REPAID DURING YEAR. According to a report presented to Parliament the total amount of the public debt at March 31 last was £182,113,695, the amount repaid or redeemed under the provisions of theAct during thq year being £942,020. Since the commencement of the 19?5 Act to the end of the last financial year the aggregate amount repaid or redeemed totalled £1,831,752.

In terms of section 11 of the Repayment of the Public Debt Act, 1925, £941,529 4s 4d was- paid to the credit of the Public Debt Repayment Account from the ordinary revenue account of the Consolidated Fund, and of that sum, together with the balance at the beginning of the year (£2096 2s 6d), the amount of £939,230 14s was utilised in the discharge from the of securities of a nominal amount of £942,020.
