ENGLISH PICTURES.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—It was a great pleasure to see a good English picture like that presented at the picture theatre last Saturday. The fact that it was written, produced, and photographed by Captain Frank Hurley, one of Shackleton’s men, gave it a special interest. 1/ut it was an excellent picture besides. A straightforward tale of adventure among savages in New Guinea, it was, among its secondary advantages, good wholesome fare for the boys and girls, and was much enjoyed by them. The scenery, jungles, rivers, and waterfalls were beautiful. Without disparaging American pictures, which I, for one, very much enjoy, it is nice to see English people ; and to see thingsi presented in an English way, with sub-titles in purer English than we often get with American productions. I feel certain that what is most needed for the popularising of English films among US' is familiarity with some attractive types of actors and actresses. If we could get to know Betty Balfour and Ivor Novell© as we know Tom Mix, Richard Dix, and Colleen Moore we would be more anxious to see them than we now are to see unknown people, even in first-class English, productions. A PICTURE LOVER.
