STATEMENTS OF YEAR’S WORKING

The following annual report will be presented at the annual general meeting of shareholders of, the Hauraki Plains Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., at Turua to-morrow “Your Directors have pleasure in presenting the 12th annual report and balance-sheet of the Company for the year ended June 30, 1927. “A very satisfactory increase in the supply of butter-fat both for cheesemaking and butter-making is shown for the past season, resulting in an increase of 67 tons lewt in cheese and 7 tons 9cwt of creamery butter made over last season. During the year 629 tons 9cwt of cheese, 51 tons 4%cwt of creamery butter, and 27 tons lewt of whey buttter have been made. The past season has been a good one so far as the amount of but-ter-fat is concerned from the suppliers to the factory. It is very satisfactory to record that the grading for cheese has been of a very high standard, practically 75 per cent, of the whole output grading finest. This reflects great credit on the manage! and factory staff, and also on the suppliers for the quality of the milk received at the factory, who are to be congratulated on the result.

“It is regrettable that the prices returned to tthe factory for both butter and cheese have been so much lower than the previous season, but it is satisfactory to note that many of the factory charges show a considerable reduction. It is also most satisfactory to record that the past season has been the highest in the quantity of butter-fat received in the history of the company. “The average advance payment to cheese and butter suppliers for the whole season has been Is 2d per lb butter-fat. The estimated balance of £5587 18s 9d from the working account .will give a further payment to cheese suppliers of 2%d per lb butterfat, and to butter suppliers 1 3-5 d per lb butter-fat. These payments are arrived at on the figures supplied by the Control Board.

“In all cases the unsold stocks of cheese, butter, and whey butter have been valued in accordance with figures supplied by the Control Board : Cheese 7%d, butter, fipest, Is 3d and l-16th., first, is 2d and 9-16ths., and second,’ Is Id and l-16th. ; whey butter, Is Id.

“Your directors recommend that a payment of. Id per lb on all buttter-fat supplied during the. season be paid at the annual meeting, together with interest at 6 per cent, on paid-up capital. This will amount to £3085 12s 3d. The share capital interest is equal to one farthing a pound on all butterfat. The balance will be paid out immediately final realisations are received from the Control Board. “In view of compulsory control being abolished, the company’s produce will now be marketed as formerly. “The retiring directors are Messrs H. H. Hicks, C. A. Ansfbrd, and C. K. Fox, who retire by rotation and are eligible for re-eliettion. You will also be asked to a.ppoint an auditor, Mr F. S. Battley again offers his services. BALANCE-SHEET.

The balance-sheet showed that the capital of the company was £20,000. Tlie balance from the working account available for distribution to suppliers was: £5576 6s sd. The factory plant, land, etc., was set down at £13,926 7s 3d, supplies on hand £383 7s 3d. cheese and butter £2082 2s lid, and the estimated balance, from the Control Board was £6091 14s 6d Shares in other companies amounted to £436 16s, and sundry debtors owed £2655 18s 6d.

The working account showed that £35,797 16s had been paid out to milk and cream suppliers, and £BB7 Ils had been paid for whey cream purchased. Factory charges totalled £6067 2s 9d, general charges including maintenance, £682 12s sd, income tax, £24 8s 4d, rates, insurance, and interest £524 17s Id, freezing and shipping charges £l4OO 3st 7d, depreciation £559 14s 6d, interest on shares £539 12s 3d, control board levy £196 12s 4d.

From products sold and awaiting sale the amounts set down were: cheese, £42,044 8s 6d ; butter, £7152 6s 3; and whey butter, £3269 Is 6d.

Statistics for the 1926-27 season were given as follows :— Cheese.—MUk received, 13,698,4901 b; butter-fat. 519,337.81 b ; average test, 3.79; yield of cheese to milk (factory weights), 9.84 ; yield of cheese to butter-fat (factory weights), 2.6805 ; cheese made, 1,392,1001 b, equal to 621 tons 9cwt, 381 b.

Butter. —Cream received, 24'1,3671 b ; butter-fat in milk and cream, 94,502.11 b ; average test, 39.15 ; ov'er-run, 21.41; creamery butter made, .114,7491 b, equal to 51 tons 4%cwt. Whey Butter. —Whey butter-fat, Hauraki Plains Co., 23,408.41 b ; whey butter-fat purchased, 26,207.81 b; whey butter made, 60,5921 b, equal to 27 tons lewt; yield of whey butter-fat recovered from every 1001 b of butterfat supplied for cheese-making, 4.50.
