N.Z. DAIRY COMPANY.

PAST YEARNS OPERATIONS. A BRIEF STATEMENT. A brief statement of the affairs of the N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., was given on Wednesday last, by executive officers of the company at the meetings of cheese factory suppliers at Huirau Road and Shelly Beach. THE BONUS. At the end of the present month the bonus would be distributed. Suppliersi whose shares were fully paid up would receive a shareholder’s bonus in cash of %d on every pound of but-ter-fat supplied during the season. In addition, cash payments of 2%d on all butter-fat supplied during the months of October, November, December, and February, i%d on January supply, and 3%d on March and April would be made, and at a later date it was expected thatt a further llid would be paid out in respect to May supply. THE PAY-OUT. The final pay-out for the season on superfine butter-fat would be is 4.176 d, but in addition the company had subsidised cream cartage and paid railage on cream equal to an amount of .182 d per lb butter-fat and placed.to reserve a sum equal to .115 d. Thus the total return would be Is 4.473 d. INCREASED PRODUCTION. During the past season the company manufactured 25,771 tons of butter, an increase over that of the previous year of 3505 tons, or 15.745 per cent. The cheese manufactured totalled 5019 tons, an increase of 252 tons over the preceding year, despite the fact that one less factory ha.d been operating. One cheese factory had turned over to casein. The company had also manufactured 4113 ' tons of milk powder and 767 tons of casein. This very large increase in production was partly accounted for by the favourable season and partly by the greater number of cows milked. The company had attracted a large number of cows from competing companies, and a large number of new suppliers had commenced dairying in the territory for the first time; during the past season. These accounted for 17,251 cows. SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION. The capital position of the compa.ny was particular]}' satisfactory', as the balance-sheet, recently issued, showed land, buildings, and plant (excluding the colliery) at’fi1,131,224'. The issued capital was £1,308,899, and the paid-up capital £1,000,039. The company’s cheese factories were now all in a strong financial position ; in fact, the majority were fully paid off and the remainder would reach that position in a very short time. PROSPECTS FOR SEASON. , Mr Parlane stated that he was in a position to state that the forward position was satisfactory for both butter and cheese, particularly the latter on account of the big drop in the production of Canada, New Zealand’s chief competitor on the British market. PLAINS CHEESE FACTORIES. Dealing with the company’s cheese factories on the Hauraki Plains Mr Parlane said that the returns to the suppliers were particularly satisfactory. The Shelly Beach factory payout of to 5.41 d was the highest of any of the company’s factories, and possibly was a Dominion record for the season. At this factory the supply was kept up for a long period. The pay-out for the Huirau Road factory, where the supply was smaller and the season shorter, was Is 4.06 d. The payments at the company’s other factories had been : Eureka, Is 4.65 d ; Hairini, Is 4.63 d ; Hikutaia, Is, 4.4 d ; Manawaru, Is 4.45 d ; Matamata, Is 4.86 d ; Matatoki, Is 4.56 d ; Orini, Is 4.75 d ; Rukuhia, Is 4'.48d ; Wharepoa, Is 4.48 d;, and East Tamaki, which also had a town ipilk supply trade, is 6.41 d.
