THE DENTAL CLINIC.
EFFORT OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
PRAISE FOR WORK DONE. Writing editorially on the consummation of the efforts of the Paeroa District High School Committee in providing a dental clinic for its school the Te Aroha News states :— “The clinic was largely the result of community effort. The department made a grant, but the Paeroa people had to carry a heavy responsibility and it was only by the wholeheartedness and determination with A which the difficulties- were faced that r the school committee gained its end. The.committee found it impossible to obtain by direct, giving or other means the whole of the money required, and the building, into which the best work has been put, was erected by voluntary labour. Dental clinics in connection with the schools are as- yet in their infancy, but so great is the demand for them, that the) department is unable to train nurses in sufficient numbers. Paeroa was quick to recognise the advantages of having a clinic and moved early, getting in ahead of many other places which, on a population basis, had better claims. The people of Paer.oa deserved the compliments paid them at the opening ceremony, qnd aggressiveness such as they have shown should be welcomed -- in any community. They showed other qualities still more commendable when they successfully carried out their part of the work. The responsibilitiies of the local committee do not end with the opening of the clinic. The maintenance is a charge against them, the department merely providing the nurse.”
