WEST CLUB’S SOCIAL.

ENJOYABLE ANNUAL FUNCTION.

CHUBS WELL REPRESENTED.

The winners of the senior Rugby competition this season and one of the oldest and most popular clubs in the district held its annual dance and euchre tournament at the Gaiety Theatre, Paeroa on Monday night. The reference is made to the West Club, the popularity of which was exemplified by the large and representative gathering present. It was particularly noticeable the number of members of other clubs who attended. Promptly at 8 p.m. the dancing commenced to the irresistible strains of the Hauraki Orchestra. The duties of Masters of Ceremony were well and truly carried out by Messrs J. M. Crosby and M. Poland, and to them considerable praise is due for their able control of the ball-room, which was gaily decorated with palms and ■coloured streamers, the club’s colours (black and white) being cleverly extended from a centre-piece; of maroon (Suburbs. Club) and yellow (East), and the whole effect was as pleasing as it was cleverly carried out. ■. The supper-room which was al*<> appropriately decorated, was well patronised during the night, and to the wives- of the members and supporters of tihe club credit is duo for the excellence of the supper and the complete manner in which the service, was organised.

The euchre tournament, which was controlled by Messrs T. H. Hal© and W. D. Sanderson, attracted an attendance of 76 players-, and competition was spirited for the handsome prizes offered.

During the supper adjournment the culb’s president (Mr E. Edwards) extended a hearty welcome to the visitors, and especially members of kindred clubs. He also expressed the grateful tha.nks of th© club to the supporters of the club, and to all those who had donated prizes or by other means- had contributed towards tine success and pleasure of the function. Congratulations were extended to the East and Suburbs clubs for thegood battle they had put up on the playing fields and made possible the success of the West Club. Tine winners of the euchre prizes were : Ladies, Mrs H. Poland 1, Mrs Meade, Karangahake, 2, Mrs- C. HPascoe 3. Men : Messrs A. Killgour 1, W. Lipsham 2, H. McKee 3.
