The action of the president in cancelling the challenge for the Peace Cup set down for play at Hamilton on August 27 was confirmed. THAMES VALLEY SELECTION. The opinion was expressed by Mr, Dent that the Hauraki Plains Union was sitting back too far in not (having a representative on the Thames Valley Rugby Union’s selection committee; x

Mr Berney pointed out that the selectors were appointed at the' annual meeting, and as three selectors were required and there were four subunions, one sub-iunion had to be without a representative-. In this opinion there should be an A and B match to enable the representative team to be -chosen, for it was apparent that the Plains men in the last team had been selected on their game in the PaeroaPlains match alone.

Mr Foster said that when three selectors were asked for at the Thames Valley Union’s annual meeting three nominations were received, and a< he considered them good men, did not nominate a Plains representative. It was such a difficult matter to get a suitable selector that his opinion was that the Plains would be better served by the three men nominated than if it had direct representation.

Being of /opinion that the Plains was suffering in not having a direct representative on the selection committce, Mr Dent moved that the Thames Valley Union be asked to allow the Plains Union to have a. representative.

Messrs Foster. Madgwick, and McClean opposed tihe suggestion, and considered that the 'Plains would get a fair deal from the present selectors. After some discussion it was found that the rules provided for not more than three selectors. The president’s motion was accordingly withdrawn, and It was unanimously decided that it be a recommendation to the ThamesValley Rugby Union that its rules be amended to allow each sub-union to appoint a delegate who would submit the names of players suitable- for admission in the representative team to a sole selector. CLUB COMPETITIONS.

The Turua and Waitakaruru senior teams having an equal number of points in tihe competition, a play-off is necessary, and it was decided that this game be played at Ngatea, being a neutral ground, on Saturday next at 2.30 p.m. The gate receipts will be. divided between the two clubs after th© payment of expenses-. It was decided to ask Mr D. G. McMillan, Paeroa, tp referee. At 1 p.m. the Ngatea and Turua B

junior teams will play in the semifinal of the competition, Mr J. Kidd being the referee. The Waitakaruru Club produced clearances from the Thames Union for T. Bradley and D. Fitzpatrick and asked that the players be legistered. DENT CUP CONDITIONS. The president, Mr H. Dent,. of Ngatea, submitted the conditions of the handsome silver cup which he has presented for- annual competition by . senior Plains teams, and these condi- - tions were accepted. The Dent Cup, as, it will be known, may not be won outright, but shall remain the property of the union and shall be kept insured and in the safekeeping of the union at all times, except on special occasions such as functions arranged by the winning team. For the present season the cup is to be competed for in a knock-out competition commencing on August 20, when the Turua and Ngatea seniors will meet at Ngatea at 1.30'p.m. sharp find the Kerepeehi and Waitakaruru teams will meet at Ngatea at 2.30 p;m. Th© two winning teams will meet on September 3. In the event of either of the- first matches resulting in a draw play will be continued for 15 minutes, and if th© scores are then equal the game will be continued until a score is obtained or a force is recorded, in which case the team forcing will lose the match. FINANCE. Tlie treasurer reported that the receipts for the season to date amounted to £75 18s and the expenditure to £66 5s 9d.
