The- large wooden and iron building in Hughend-on Street, which wa.s destroyed by fire on June 7 last, while occupied by Mr H. E. Raffills, as a motor garage, has been demolisbe-d. The building which was erected by Mr W. M. Cullen, now of Te; Aroha, about 14 years ago, was- first of all occupied by a man named J. D. Morison, as an auction mait. Later the business of Morison was purchased by Messrs. Corbett and Gwilliam. auctioneers and second-hand dealers. Later the business was taken over by Mi B. Stansfield, who carried <>n for some years. During 1922 the premises were purcihasekl by the late Mr G. A. Wilson, and were occupied by tlie Paeroa Engineering Co., after which they were le-a.sed by Mr R ffiills. Much of the timber; which is principally birch, although charred, will be useful for farmers, while the balance will be disposed of for firewood. At the present time, it is understood, there is no intention to re-build on the site-. WORKING MAN’S GRATITUDE.
