Il FINAL OF PLAINS COMPETITIONS. SENIOR PLAY-OFF NECESSARY.
Kerepeehi sent eleven players to Waitakaruru, including five juniors, and with the consent of the home team, which was at full strength, played three Ngatea men and a \Vaitakaruru junior. Waitakaruru won by 17 points to 3, and will thus have to play off with Turua, possibly on -August 20.
The two Turua teams met in the junior competition, and after a very hard struggle in deep mud the “A” team won by nine points to six. It was solely with the idea, of giving a return match that the Kerepeehi club sent a team to Waitakaruru. As they lined out the teams were as follows ;— Kerepeehi.—B. Moore, P. Reti T. Connor, V. Hayward, F. Burt, R. Phillips, W.’ Kidd, A. Courtney, S. Nicholson, T. Renata, E. Gill, A. Nicholson, J. Nicholson, P. Solomon, P. Leonard. Waitakaruru —F. Barlow, L. Berney, D. Molasworth, R. Walters, C. Stretton, L. Coxhead. J. Knox, G. Paton, R. Williams, P. Clark, R. Graha,m, J. Millington, ,D. Dalgcty, K. Care, E. Laing. From the very beginning the home team had the advantage, and a Jjcore was secured by Clark almost fyom the kick-off. Further tries would have been scored in quick succession but for infringements. The second quarter showed that Waitakaruru had some benefit from combination, but play was quiet and the home team gave a lot of penalty kicks. It was not until almost the end of the first half that a second try was scored. After a brief spell for half-time the Waitakaruru backs scored three tries in quick succession, and one was converted. From then on there was little serious, work. The home team knew it was in a position ,to score almost when it liked, and gave its opponents much encouragement, to the amusement of the spectators. Kerepeehi secured one try, and the game ended with the scores, 17 .to 3. Mr J. Reed was referee. POSITIONS IN COMPETITIONS.
