The population of Australia is now 6,139,882. This represents an- increase for the year of 122,593. This total is made up of an excess of Arrivals- over departures by boat of 47,757, and anexcess of arrivals over departures by the road of Nature of 74,836. Theproblem of the surplus woman, so prominent in older countries, has no significance there, according to these figures. In Australia there are still 137,454 more males-than females. New South Wales still hfis a bigger population than any of the other States. There are now 2,360,326 people in the Mother State, -Victoria following with 1,216,093.
