TURUA.
DOMAIN IMPROVEMENT.
For some years efforts, have been made to improve the Turua Domain to make it suitable for winter sports, and considerable sums of money have been raised for the purpose and substantial grants have been made by the Turua Football Club and the Turua Town Board. After the surface had been levelled field drains were Installed, but as yet these outlets have proved of little or no value and the recent spell of wet weather has resulted in the football playing fields becoming quagmires. With a view to discussing ways and means of making the fields fit for play the football club called a meeting for last Friday evening, and it was then resolved to place the matter before a public meeting on Monday evening. However, there was only an attendance of 15, a.ll members of the football club. An offer was received from Mr McCowatt to land 500 yards of sand on the riverbank for £25 provided assistance in unloading was given. It was decided to ac cept the offer and spread two inches of sand over one of the football fields as an experiment if. the money could be found. A collection was taken up in the room and over £7 was received, while offers of labour and vehicles for carting the sand were made. The club is now' appealing to the public fbr the balance of the money required, and the response is said to be satisfactory. .
